After two months of slowly teasing their upcoming Battlefield game through their cryptic tweets and posts on social media, DICE has finally revealed the latest installment in the Battlefield series – Battlefield 2042, which was previously thought to be titled Battlefield 6.
Battlefield 2042 is set to be the biggest Battlefield game in scope as the much anticipated 5 minutes reveal trailer shows off the game’s enormous-sized maps and combat in action. The game will have 7 large-scale maps on launch, with each map supporting upto 128 players (64vs64) and every map will have a “unique experience based on the natural environment” according to the game’s official description.
Battlefield 2042 has seemingly dropped its class-based combat in favor of a new “Specialist” system which means every Specialist will have their own perks and abilities which will be inspired by the classic class system, making this a hero-based Battlefield game, a first for the series. Players can utilize grappling hooks, robotic combat dogs, and wingsuits and each of these abilities are unique to specific Specialists.
There are 3 editions available for pre-order: Standard, Gold and Ultimate Editions.
Players who pre-purchase the game now will get:
- Early access to open beta
- Baku ACB-90 melee takedown knife
- “Mr. Chompy” epic weapon charm
- “”””Landfall”””” player card background and “”””Old Guard”””” tag
The official gameplay reveal is set for June 13, which happens to be during Microsoft’s E3 presentation.
Battlefield 2042 is slated to release on 23 October 2021 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, and Xbox One along with cross-play support.
