Is One Piece Odyssey Open World?

BANDAI NAMCO is well-known for releasing a range of One Piece video games across various systems, primarily role-playing games with a few fighting games thrown in.

The company is now attempting to combine these two themes into a new, next-generation game called One Piece Odyssey.

This title is intended to be a “fully-fleshed out JPRG” with turn-based combat and an open world setting featuring popular characters from the anime.

Is One Piece Odyssey Open World?

One Piece Odyssey is an open world game that allows players to freely roam and explore each world they visit. The game will feature various locations from famous arcs in the One Piece anime and manga, such as Alabasta, Water 7/Enies Lobby, Marineford, and Dressrosa.

These locations will be part of the “what if” story element, where the Straw Hat crew travels back through memories to experience alternate versions of old One Piece arcs. While the specifics of traversing between memories and worlds in the game are not yet clear, it is confirmed that players will be able to explore these locations freely.

One Piece Odyssey is an open world game with certain areas that can only be accessed by using specific Straw Hat characters. For example, Chopper is needed to explore small caves and Zoro is needed to slash through gates.

Players will start the game as Luffy and must find and reunite with the rest of the Straw Hat crew. While the game is being marketed as open world, there may be some closed areas as well.

More information about the open world aspect of One Piece Odyssey will likely be revealed when the game is released.

One Piece Odyssey will be released on January 13 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
