Housemarque’s Returnal is finally out and it has been praised by both fans and critics alike, but one of its main criticisms is that the game is somewhat difficult due to its procedurally generated biomes and the fact that players lose their items and progression on death as is tradition with roguelike games.
But one player managed to turn the tables and discovered that Returnal contains left-over code that developers used to test various items and weapons, these cheats can be accessed using a USB keyboard on the PlayStation 5 and using the cheats also doesn’t disable Trophies.
The cheats allow players to drop weapons and respawn while keeping all current progress and items in their inventory. These cheats are limited and so far there isn’t any debug option that makes players invincible, so using them won’t necessarily make your experience any easier.
To drop weapons; Hold Shift, Ctrl and Alt keys while pressing keys 1 to 0 will drop weapons according to your proficiency.
To respawn back into your ship along with your items and progression: Hold Shift and Ctrl and 4 to respawn inside your ship with everything intact.
Housemarque will be releasing a patch soon to prevent players from accessing the cheats.
Returnal is available on PlayStation 5.
Returnal Cheat Codes:
- Press and hold Shift and Ctrl, then press Alt – drop weapons (press 1 through 0 to drop different weapons at current proficiency)
- Press and hold Shift and Ctrl, then press 4 – respawn at the ship with loot intact
- Press and hold Shift and Ctrl, then press 8 – respawn at the last place you visited (the beginning of a dungeon or area)
