Housemarque’s roguelike game, Returnal is quite challenging, not because of its difficulty, but due to the fact that you couldn’t save your progress at all, unless you put your PS5 in rest mode and any sort of disruption, be it a system software update or a power outage means that you’ll have to restart the entire thing all over again.
Returnal’s update 2.0 is here to solve that issue with the introduction of the Suspend Cycle option which now lets players exit the game and continue where they left off. While this feature doesn’t necessarily work as a traditional save point, Harry Krueger, Housemarque’s Game Director states that “your game will continue directly from the moment you left it, and if you want to suspend the cycle again, your progress will be captured from that new point onwards.”
There are also certain limitations with this system as players won’t be able to suspend their runs during cutscenes, combat sequences, and boss battles to “preserve the intended challenge and flow.”
Update 2.0 also brings Photo Mode to the game with various customization options such as focal distance, aperture, saturation, or contrast. You can also add various light sources, filters, frames, and color tones to make your screenshots stand out in many different ways.
