With 2021 coming to an end, we’ve seen plenty of AAA and Indie releases over the last 12 months and while there were some solid titles released this year, there were also some disappointments either due to development or technical issues or these games were straight up disappointing.
Metacritic has listed the top 10 worst games released between January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021, based on their average Metascores, and according to Metacritic, games with less than 7 “professional” critic reviews have been excluded from the list.
Here are the 10 worst games of 2021 (Ranked from low ratings to high):
- eFootball 2022 (PC)
- Balan Wonderworld (Switch)
- Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood (PS4)
- Taxi Chaos (PS4)
- Of Bird and Cage (PC)
- Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (Switch)
- I Saw Black Clouds (PS4)
- Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace (PC)
- Demon Skin (PC)
- Necromunda: Hired Gun (PS4)
It is interesting to note that Yuji Naka’s Balan Wonderworld is officially the worst game on Switch to be released this year and had low scores on every platform while Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was criticized for its inconsistent performance on all platforms, especially the Nintendo Switch and was riddled with numerous, yet hilarious bugs.
Although not listed here, Battlefield 2042 deserves an honorable mention here as it was received poorly by critics and fans of the series (both veterans and newcomers alike). It is currently at 39% positive reviews on Steam and is the 16th worst game on the platform while it has an average Metascore of 64 across PC and both Next-gen consoles.
