Garena, the Singapore-based game publisher, is gearing up for the much-anticipated launch of Free Fire India, the Indian version of its highly popular battle royale title. After months of anticipation and with a nod from the government, Garena is taking significant steps to localize its operations in India, indicating a deep commitment to the Indian gaming community.
Garena to Set Up Free Fire India Server in the Premises of Yotta Data Services in Navi Mumbai
According to a report by the Economic Times, Garena has decided to shift its game server to India, specifically to the premises of Yotta Data Services in Navi Mumbai. Notably, for those who are not aware, Yotta is a Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology empaneled Cloud Service Provider. This decision aligns with the growing emphasis on data localization and underscores Garena’s proactive approach to comply with local regulations and meet the needs of Indian authorities.
The same report revealed that Yotta Data Services is collaborating closely with Garena’s headquarters team to rigorously test the server infrastructure. Early indications suggest that the server is demonstrating the high throughput capabilities essential for handling streaming workloads, crucial for delivering an optimal gaming experience to Indian players.
Confirming this development, Garena emphasized its commitment to creating a fully localized infrastructure tailored to the unique requirements of Indian stakeholders in an email response to the Economic Times’ queries. Garena stated, “Free Fire India will feature a fully localized infrastructure tailored to meet the needs and requirements of the authorities and our stakeholders in India.”
Garena Aims to Localize Free Fire India
The journey towards localizing operations and establishing a robust server infrastructure in India has been marked by significant milestones and collaborations. Back in July 2023, the Uttar Pradesh government took proactive steps to bolster the esports ecosystem in the state by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Garena. This partnership aimed to foster the growth of esports while also laying the groundwork for the eventual launch of Free Fire in India.
Simultaneously, Garena inked an agreement with Yotta to provide data center and cloud hosting services for Garena’s operations in India. This alliance paved the way for the localization efforts currently underway, ensuring that Garena’s foray into the Indian gaming market is supported by robust infrastructure and compliance with regulatory frameworks.
