Developer MihoYo has shared details about the upcoming Genshin Impact 1.2 update that is set to bring a brand new area and 2 new heroes. Update 1.2 will also feature a new limited-time event called “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon.”
Genshin Impact 1.2 Maintenance Time
The update begins rolling out at 2020-12-23 06:00:00 (GMT+8) and will take about 5 hours to complete during which the servers will remain offline. Once the update is completed, players will be awarded a compensation of 60 Primogems for each hour the servers were down for a total of 300 Primogems. The compensation will be issued to all Players via in-game mail within 5 hours from the end of maintenance and the mail will be valid for the next 30 days.

New Area: Dragonspine
Test your adventuring skills in the brand new Dragonspine area. Dragonspine is filled with various puzzles as well as new quests and the brand new environmental mechanic ⸺Subzero Climate. Characters in Subzero Climate will continuously accumulate a new debuff called Sheer Cold. When Sheer Cold reaches its limit, the character will start losing HP.
Frostbearing Tree
The Dragonspine area also features the Frostbearing Tree. An Ancient tree that should have slumbered forever under the ice and snow has sprouted its scarlet sprouts anew. Offer Frostbearing Tree the brand new Crimson Agates that scattered all over Dragonspine to level up the Frostbearing Tree and obtain rewards that include Acquaint Fate, Intertwined Fate, a wind glider, Weapon blueprints, and Gadget blueprints.
New Domain of Dragonspine – Peak in Vindagnyr
Challenge the Domain “Peak in Vindagnyr” to earn artifacts two brand new artifacts ⸺ Blizzard Strayer and Heart of Dept. Both the artifacts are exclusive to the Dragonspine domain and can’t be obtained elsewhere.
New World Quests in Dragonspine
With the new area comes new quests. Dragonspine area will have 6 new quests namely ⸺ In the Mountains, The Festering Fang, The Great Mountain Survey, A Land Entombed, Lost in the Snow, and “Ah, Fresh Meat!”.
Completing the “Ah, Fresh Meat!” quest players will obtain the recipe for Goulash, a new dish that slightly reduces the rate of Sheer Cold accumulation for all party members for a duration of time.
Meet “Kreideprinz” Albedo and “Plenilune Gaze” Ganyu
Albedo and Ganyu are the two new 5-star characters that will be joining the ever-growing roster of characters of Genshin Impact. Both characters will come with their own Story quest that can be available sometime after the update.
Albedo is a genius known as the Kreideprinz, he is the Chief Alchemist and Captain of the Investigation Team of the Knights of Favonius. His main element is Geo and he wields a sword as his main weapon. Albedo’s Story Quest “Princeps Cretaceus Chapter: Act I” will be available after the update.
Ganyu is a secretary at Yuehai Pavilion. The blood of the qilin, an illuminated beast, flows within her veins. She is a genius who wields a bow and has mastered the Gyro element. Ganyu’s Story Quest “Sinae Unicornis Chapter: Act I” will become available at a later date.
New Equipment
Explore the Dragonspine area and complete the corresponding quests to obtain two brand new area exclusive weapons ⸺ Snow-Tombed Starsilver (4-Star Claymore) and Dragonspine Spear (4-Star Polearm) and their forging methods; make an offering to the Frostbearing Tree to obtain the forging blueprint for Frostbearer (Catalyst).
New Main Event- “The Chalk Prince and the Dragon”
The Chalk Prince and the Dragon event will go live with the update 1.2 and run until 5th Jan 2021. Players will be tasked to complete various quests in Dragonspine to obtain Essences, which can be used to redeem items in the Event Shop. A new event exclusive 4-star sword, Festering Desire can be acquired for free during the event.
“Stellar Reunion” Returnee Event
After the Version 1.2 update goes live, players who meet the Returnee Eligibility conditions can activate the “Stellar Reunion” returnee event for the opportunity to get the new 4-star weapon Prototype Rancour (Sword), Primogems, Fragile Resin, and other rewards. The event will be available for 14 days after the player meeting the Returnee Eligibility activates the “Stellar Reunion” event.
Returnee Eligibility:
-Adventure Rank 10 or above.
-At least 14 days since the last game login.
-Over 45 days since last activating the “Stellar Reunion” event.
