The second last day of the Skyesports Champions Series had Upper Finals scheduled between Global Esports and Orangutan. The match-up is a revenge match, as Global Esports had lost to Orangutan earlier in the tournament and were forced to survive the Lower Bracket. At the same time, Orangutan had lost to Engima Gaming yesterday.
The winner of today’s match would be the second and final representative for South Asia in Stage 2 VCT APAC Challengers and Enigma gaming, Also would be in the grand finals with a chance to win the whole event.
The map veto for the clash was as follows.
- Orangutan Ban Split, thier perma ban.
- Global eSports Ban Icebox, Orangutan’s strongest map
- Orangutan chose Ascent, With Global Esports on Defense.
- Global eSports chose Fracture, With Orangutan on Defense.
- Orangutan Ban Haven, Global Esports strong map.
- Global Esports Ban Breeze, Orangutans’ stronghold.
- Bind remains as the decider.
On Ascent, Global Esports decided to go with a no duelist setup playing with Chamber, Kay/O, Breach, Sova and Astra. Orangutan decided to go with the normal setup, including Jett, Sova, Omen, Killjoy and Breach.
Despite the strong start from Orangutan and on a 0-3 deficit, Global Esports pulled a thrifty and went on to win the half 4-8 on defence. On attack, Global Esports managed to carry the momentum to the next half and won the pistol and the follow-up. Orangutan did try defending. Still, with Global Esports already on ten rounds, Orangutan fell and lost the game 8-13.
Losing their map pick, Orangutan was disadvantaged, and they had to play the opponent’s map pick. Both teams had mirror lineups with Sage, Raze, Chamber, Breach and Brimstone on fracture.
In the first half, though, it seemed that Orangutan had lost all the momentum, and they went on to lose six straight rounds before winning two more. But this didn’t stop Global Esports’ attack, and they attacked stronger to win the half 10-2.
The second half started with Orangutan winning the pistol and the follow-up, but they had difficulty converting this into something big and didn’t come back. And they lost to Global Esports 5-13, losing the series 0-2.
Orangutan might have lost but had an impressive run in the tournament for it being a new lineup.
Global Esports has now been a representative for South Asia for all three times the region had a chance. Global Esports will play Enigma Gaming tomorrow for the Skyesports Champions Series Trophy and an advantage stage in Stage 2 VCT APAC Challengers.
