Hearthstone’s first female Grand Champion crowned at BlizzCon 2019

Along the news of ongoing protest against Blizzard’s Hong Kong verdict and poor reception of game announcements at BlizzCon, some good news also came from this year’s BlizzCon.

BlizzCon 2019, the place for this year’s Grand Finale of Hearthstone saw the best Hearthstone players in the world gathered to compete for the top player crown, witnessed aChinese Professional Hearthstone player, Xiaomeng “VKLiooon” Li became the first female to be crowned the Grand Champion.

The journey for VKLiooon wasn’t similar to that of other contestants. Coming from the Chinese circuit, which doesn’t compete in Grandmaster system, she had to qualify for BlizzCon finale by playing in open tournaments. The road to finale from open tournaments is very long and filled with many talented individuals grinding out for the same invite.

While standing on stage to accept her trophy, she couldn’t help but get emotional. VKLiooon became the first woman to win a major BlizzCon championship and the first woman to win a major HS championship.

In her speech VKLiooon said:

I want to say for all the girls out there who have a dream for esports competition, for gloryIf you want to do it and you believe in yourself, you should just forget your gender and go for it. This is the best way to strike back at those people who doubted me only because I am a girl. It proves that girls can be strong pro players, just as guys do.”

Now VKLiooon is officially the best Hearthstone player in the world, a title she earned herself even after facing stereotype from man around her competing for the same.
