Nintendo’s social sim title ‘Animal Crossing’ is undoubtedly renowned for its unique and fun gameplay experience. However, its abilities as a matchmaker are also not to be underestimated from now on either.
According to a recent Fox 13 report, a couple who found each other through Animal Crossing has gotten engaged after several months of dating.
In the early stages of the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Utah resident Steven Brown bought himself a Nintendo Switch and began to play Animal Crossing to distract himself from the dark times of the pandemic. Little did the single dad of two know that he was about to find the love of his life through a video game.
Animal Crossing features an in-game currency called ‘bells’. Brown, after managing to stock up a good number of bells, decided to give some away through Facebook. That is how he finally met Shayla Johnson, who commented on his post and caught his attention.
After Brown gave Johnson the bells, she invited him to visit her virtually in her own ‘island’. For the unaware, players can create their own islands in Animal Crossing and customize them at will.
The two played for four hours, and slowly started to bond over common interests. The friendship soon turned into something more, as Brown decided to visit Johnson in Indiana this August. He described their first meeting as “magical”.
A few months later, Brown secretly bought a ring and proposed to Johnson, asking her to marry him. Johnson accepted, and the couple got engaged.
The two have already started planning their wedding, with Johnson expecting to move in with Brown in January 2021.
