ESL on their Twitter has posted an update regarding the upcoming Intel Extreme Masters: Katowice. The IEM Katowice 2021 is planned to be held on LAN but not at the usual location, the Spodek Arena.
This will be the first LAN event since the pandemic hit across the globe, with a plethora of events suffering some huge setbacks which forced them to alter their match-up layouts to an online mode. This $1 million event is scheduled to be held from February 16-28, with the event location still being a mystery for us.
Due to the ongoing global pandemic, the event organizer has decided to transition this entire tournament to be held in a studio environment without any spectator attendance. With this report from ESL, they might go on to convert this event into an online play if COVID-19 would still continue to be a threat for the players and staff.
The 2020 edition of the same had met the same fate where the latter was held in an empty arena. Esports titles including StarCraft II and Warcraft III: Reforged will also follow the same schedule along with Counter Strike: Global Offensive.
