The Crime Branch of Guwahati Police has arrested Debojyoti “David” Dey, the founder of iNSANE Esports, as one of the masterminds behind a major call center raid. This arrest comes as a significant development in the ongoing crackdown on illegal call centers operating across the city. Notably, iNSANE Esports is one of the most prominent names in the Indian esports industry.
Founder of iNSANE Esports Linked to Illegal Call Center Activities
This operation targeted a network of fraudulent call centers that had been operating secretively for the past two years. Additionally, their illegal activities extended beyond Indian borders, with victims from both India and abroad falling prey to their scams.
These fraudulent call centers operated under the guise of tech support services. They used deceptive methods such as pop-up advertisements and toll-free numbers to convince victims that they were reaching out to legitimate service providers. Once they gained remote access to the victims’ devices, they would manipulate them into believing their personal information or bank accounts were compromised, luring them into making payments using bitcoin or gift vouchers.
During a coordinated series of raids, the police targeted eight different locations across Guwahati, including houses, buildings, and malls. The detainees included 144 individuals, among them 47 women, aged between 21 and 25 years. The police also seized a substantial amount of equipment, including 164 desktop computers, 90 laptops, 26 mobile phones, and various electronic gadgets.
The arrest of Debojyoti “David” Dey, aged 30-31 years, has startled the esports community. David, who was the driving force behind iNSANE Esports, had garnered attention for his contributions to the gaming industry. However, his alleged involvement in this major call center raid has raised serious questions about his activities beyond the esports industry. Besides David, Police caputed two more masterminds during this operation.
