Chinese League of Legends organization Edward Gaming’s parent company SuperGen Group has announced plans to construct the world’s biggest esports industry park — Shanghai International NCC & Esports Center. It will cost over 10 billion yuan which is approximately $1.5 Billion USD and is expected to be completed by 2023.
As the Chinese government double down on its commitment towards esports and open up more avenues for gaming to prosper smoothly, many businesses that operate in the Chinese gaming sector have come up with plans to invest big in the emerging market.
In 2020 the Chinese gaming industry as a whole saw new highs and Esports, in general, blossomed the most. The most significant moment of Esports in China was the League of Legends World Championship 2020 which was held in Shangai, in the Pudong Football Stadium.
According to Edward Gaming, the Esports Center will function as Edward Gaming’s main headquarters and training facility. The Esports Centre will also incorporate various other features such as a 500,000 sqm arena able to hold 6,000 spectators, a 5-star gaming-themed hotel, Asia’s deepest deep diving pool (upto 40.4m), and the largest indoor skydiving center. The construction has already started in the Minhang District of Shangai with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The first phase of the project has already cost well over $774 million and with future plans to make it even bigger, the final cost of the project is sure to raise more. The SuperGen Group hopes that the Shanghai International Culture and Creative Esports Center will be completed by 2023 and enable Shanghai to host over 300 esport events a year and help Shanghai to become the hub of the gaming industry in China.
