What Does Malding Mean in Twitch Chat?

Here’s all you need to know about ‘malding’, its origins, and what it means.

If you’ve been following Twitch streamers for a while, or simply watching esports tournaments on the platform, chances are you’ve heard of the term ‘malding’ at some point in the Twitch chat. If you’re curious about what the word ‘malding’ means in Twitch chat, we have you covered. Here’s all you need to know about ‘malding’, its origins, and what it means.

Malding Meaning in Twitch Chat

As some of you may already have guessed at first glance, the word ‘malding’ is a combination of the words ‘mad’ and ‘balding’. But why are these two words used together? To understand this we have to go back in time a bit.

The word ‘malding’ was popularized by Twitch streamer Forsen’s chat around 2019. In one of his streams, Forsen was being so worked up about a game that his viewers started spamming “so bad, so mad”, which eventually changed into “so bald, so mald”.

Thereafter, ‘malding’ was regularly spammed by the Twitch chat whenever a streamer got so mad that he seemed to be balding at the same time.

Interestingly enough, ‘malding’ has been in the urban dictionary since 2011, which is much prior to the Twitch chat popularizing the term.
