Minecraft version 1.17.1 is right on the edge with an update scheduled for next week unless the developer runs into any critical issues.
The time for 1.17 is up and 1.17.1 is set to drop on Tuesday, June 6th according to the developers if everything goes according to their plan. The pre-release is already out for the players to get a taste of the update and the final version wouldn’t bring anything new besides optimization and bug fixes.
The developers were extremely vocal about keeping this update strictly for optimization and bug fixes with little to no fresh content which is presumably saved for 1.18. If you were looking for fresh content in the game then you should wait for the 1.18 update. The 1.17 series of updates will reportedly revolve around minor improvements.
The minor improvements and bug fixes will be aimed towards improving the overall experience of the game so that when new content arrives in the near future, players can enjoy it to its maximum potential without any annoying bugs or performance issues.
