New Minecraft update can cause players to lose worlds warns Microsoft

The latest update for Minecraft Bedrock has come with some serious bugs that might cause the players to completely lose progress in the worlds they created in the game for which Microsoft has come out to issue a warning.

Microsoft has pointed out that the error in the latest update will cause the worlds that you have created in the game to get completely removed which can potentially throw months of work down the drain. Microsoft has confirmed that the issue is restricted to PC and Xbox players only which is why they advising against downloading the March 12th update until further notice.

Microsft issued the following warnings:

  • If you do, your worlds may be lost. We’re continuing to investigate this world loss issue and are currently blocking the update from Windows to prevent the possibility of lost worlds.
  • We recommend that you run the Gaming Services Repair Tool for PC in the Xbox app on PC before installing any Minecraft update. Using this tool updates the Gaming Services to version 19.87.13001.0, which will avoid the update error.

As the issue continues to be under investigation, it is probably on the safer side to not play the game if you have already updated it but in case you are planning to update it, hold the thought until further notice from the developers.

The developers have taken every measure to reduce the number of affected players and as of now, we have no way to tell whether the ones who lost the progress can get their worlds back.
