OG win decider, enter playoffs

OG wins group decider game at CS Summit 7 against Dignitas. The Swedes failed to carry forward their momentum on Dust2 as they went down 1-2 in the best-of-three affair, despite extravagant performance by Friberg & Forest.

The result of the game was already favored on betting sites such as Unibet, which offers a large variety of esports bets and odds, heavily favoring OG. The Swedish side brought up a pretty tough fight considering they were notably the underdogs of the game.

Map Veto:

  • OG removed Vertigo
  • Dignitas removed Mirage
  • OG picked Inferno
  • Dignitas picked Train
  • OG removed Nuke
  • Dignitas removed Overpass
  • Dust2 was leftover

Map 1: Inferno (Picked by OG, Won by Dignitas, OG 11:4 ; 0:12 Dignitas, Score : 16-11)

OG came out all guns blazing, storming to a 10-2 lead on the T side of Inferno, their own map pick. Dignitas looked helpless during those initial stages with the European mixture led by Aleksi

“Aleksib” Virolainen tightened up and gradually took the upper hand as they ended the half 11-4.

In the second half, still hungry for momentum, Dignitas culminated their pistol round win on their offense into a complete second-half triumph after Håkon “hallzerk” Fjærli and Ludvig “HEAP” Alonso combining for 30 frags to spearhead the team’s comeback.

OG started to look destitute and listless after Adam “friberg” Friberg’s 4k with his AWP locked out the former from the A-site resulting from a famished setup. The Swedish side showcased a ruthless effort as they denied a single round in the favor of OG on their defense by going up 1-0 in the BO3 series.

Map 2: Train (Picked by Dignitas, Won by OG, Dignitas 7-8; 8-5 Dignitas, Score: 16-12)

An early lead went the way of Dignitas there on the back of two triples from Patrik ‘f0rest’ Lindberg and HEAP before Mateusz “mantuu” Wilczewski responded with a plethora of quick scopes to put OG on the board.

The two sides went on to trade rounds back and forth, with the European mixture coming out on top to claim an 8-7 advantage as they headed over to the offense. In the second half, OG then imposed their will on the Swedes’s pick as the latter tried to claw back on their defense, posting five rounds but Aleksib’s troops remained well in control as they wasted little time taking the map over the line.

Hallzerk added another big round to his name in the second half, sniping three offensive players on the A-site, but his heroic efforts were rendered meaningless once OG took control with guns in hand, running away with the map 16-12.

Map 3: Dust2 (Decider map, Won by OG, Dignitas: 9-6; 6-9 OG, OT 1: 4:1 in favor of OG)

Reinvigorated after their victory on Train, OG set the pace on the attacking side of Dust2, setting up a lead of 6-4 early on, but the tables turned as Dignitas were able to keep the offensive side on the bay thanks to f0rest’s 3K B-site defense in the 14r, eventually winning the last five rounds in a row to lead 9-6 at the switch.

The Swedes hit double digits after winning the anti-eco round post their pistol loss. We saw yet both the sides win rounds back and forth resulting in the map entering Overtime thanks to Mantuu who sniped the marching T’s on the A site. In the overtime, despite going up 16-15, the Swedish side couldn’t keep the momentum going as OG clinched the map 19-16 and won the series 2-1.
