Overwatch 2 Coming to Ubisoft+ After Microsoft Acquisition

The gaming landscape is set for a significant shift as Overwatch 2, a product of Activision Blizzard, is confirmed to join the Ubisoft+ multi-access subscription. This move comes in the wake of Microsoft’s acquisition of Xbox and the subsequent restructuring of its original deal. Here’s a comprehensive look at what this means for gamers and the industry.

The Microsoft-Ubisoft Collaboration

Microsoft’s proposed $68.7 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard’s cloud-gaming rights has been restructured to align with the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) norms. This adjustment means Microsoft will no longer have exclusive control over licensing Activision Blizzard games on Xbox Cloud Gaming. Instead, Ubisoft will also have the privilege to host popular titles like Call of Duty and, notably, Overwatch 2 on its exclusive cloud gaming subscription platform, Ubisoft+.

Overwatch 2’s Debut on Ubisoft+

Gamers can mark their calendars for a significant update post-October 18, 2023. This date marks the expected entry of Overwatch 2 into Ubisoft+, following the conclusion of the UK CMA’s investigation into the Microsoft-Ubisoft deal. Alongside Overwatch 2, other sought-after Activision Blizzard titles, including Call of Duty Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, will also be integrated into the gaming subscription service. This inclusion will enable the community to enjoy these games on non-Windows operating systems via Ubisoft+.

Ubisoft+ Subscription Pricing Post Overwatch 2’s Launch

With the addition of Overwatch 2 and other Activision Blizzard titles, the Ubisoft+ Multi Access subscription will be priced at $17.99 per month. This subscription, which renews automatically, will not only feature top titles from Activision Blizzard but also Ubisoft’s flagship games. This includes the entire Assassin’s Creed series, the Far Cry collection, Watchdogs, and Tom Clancy’s The Division, among others. Additionally, Ubisoft+ will offer access to premium editions and DLCs for various games.

It’s worth noting that Overwatch’s previous release on Steam was marred by login glitches, error codes, and other bugs. There’s speculation that Overwatch 2 players on Ubisoft+ might encounter similar issues due to the transfer of cloud-streaming rights. Players are advised to stay updated and seek solutions for potential OW2 errors.
