PGL to host next CSGO Major

North American event organizer PGL has announced that it will host the 16th CSGO Major later this year in Sweden.

Status of May CSGO 2021 Major

  • ESL had earlier called off the event scheduled to take place in May 2021 along with the ESL One: Road to Rio major.
  • RMR (Regional Major Ranking) events were organized ahead of the now cancelled ESL One major.

The first and much awaited CSGO Major of 2021 will be hosted by PGL in Stockholm, Sweden. Scheduled to run from October 23 till November 7, the playoffs will be held in front of a crowd from Nov 4 to Nov 7 with the largest prize pool ever in the history of Counter Strike, a whopping $2M USD up for grabs.

The venue will be the famous Ericsson Globe which had earlier hosted the DreamHack Invitational in 2014 and DreamHack Masters Stockholm in 2018.

The last massive event of CSGO was the 2019 StarLadder Major held in Berlin where Astralis were crowned champions after they crushed AVANGAR (Now Virtus.Pro)  in the Grand finals. The Esports industry had suffered a setback in the year 2020 due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Due to the latter, all LAN events were put on hold while a majority of them stood cancelled including the ESL One: Road to Rio major along with DOTA 2’s The International 2020, which was earlier supposed to be hosted at the same venue as PGL. Earlier in December, VALVE had scrapped its plans for the May 2021 Major, where they decided to explore their options for fall.

The event organizer will be streaming this upcoming major in 4K resolution making it the first ever event to be showcased in a jaw-dropping video quality. They have also promised the community to inculcate extra effects in the arena which would feature innovative Augmented Reality elements along with a brand new custom HUD.

Ahead of their third CS:GO major, Silviu Stroie, CEO at PGL added,

“First of all, my colleagues and I are passionate fans of CS. We grew up and watched this game getting bigger and bigger, just at the same pace as our development as a company. We have timeless memories with our past Counter-Strike shows, and, honestly, we owe a lot to this game, as players and as a company. We believe that this community deserves the best product this franchise has ever seen. Our goal is to celebrate the game in the best way possible, and we will work hard for this”

Before this event, PGL will review the status of the Ongoing Pandemic which would help them decide if the conditions are safe for the players and the crowd as well to attend the same.
