PlayStation acquires Nixxes Software

Must Read

PlayStation Studios now has the Netherlands-based developer, Nixxes Software under its wing. The studio specializes in PC ports and has worked with Square Enix in the past, bringing various titles such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and Marvel’s Avengers to PC.

It seems like Sony has been eyeing various European studios as they recently acquired Housemarque, the studio behind the survival-horror PS5 game Returnal.

Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios said,

I highly respect Nixxes and am excited for this very experienced team to become part of the world-class development community at SIE. They have a passion for improving games and for delivering the best possible experience for gamers. Nixxes will be a strong asset for everyone across PlayStation Studios, helping our teams focus on their most important goal, which is to create unique PlayStation content at the best possible quality.

Adding further, Jurjen Katsman, Founder & Sr. Director, Development, Nixxes stated that, “[We] are looking forward to working with some of the most talented teams in the industry to deliver the highest-quality gameplay experiences for PlayStation fans.

Sony has been focusing on bringing its games to the PC market, which could indicate why they chose to acquire Nixxes. Horizon Zero Dawn, and Bend Studio‘s Days Gone, which released recently on PC – two years after its launch on PS4. Both games were met with positive reception and sales which further strengthened Sony’s efforts to bring more titles to the platform, though Hermen has stated that “PlayStation will remain the best place to play our PlayStation Studios titles at launch. But we do value PC gamers, and we’ll continue to look at the right times to launch each game.” which could indicate that PC ports for various exclusive titles could be released a few years after their launch on consoles down the line.
