Niantic announces Hoenn Celebration Event for Pokémon GO

Niantic is holding a special 5-day event for every main region in Pokémon GO before we make our way to the new Kanto region coming with the big Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event update. Let’s dig into the Pokemon GO Hoenn Celebration Event in this article.

Starting with the Unova region, Pokémon Go is currently having a celebration event for the Sinnoh region from Tuesday, January 12th until Sunday, January 17th The next will be the Hoenn Celebration event which will take place from Tuesday, January 19th until Sunday, January 24th.

The Pokemon GO Hoenn Celebration event will bring a lot of changes to the game. Starting off with the Hoenn region-specific Pokémon’s Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Taillow, Loudred, Nosepass, Aron, Meditite, Roselia, Carvanha, Numel, Baltoy, and others from the region will appear more frequently in the wild. Players will also have a chance to encounter a Shiny Aron.

The raids lineup will also be updated to include Hoenn region Pokémon. Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Ralts, Aron, and Bagon will be appearing in one-star raids.

While Breloom, Mawile, Grumpig, Spinda, and Absol will be appearing in three-star raids. Finally, Kyogre and Groudon will be appearing in five-star raids.

Niantic is also giving players a free bundle of 3 Remote Raid Passes to take on the new raid bosses while the event is active. 

As for the collections, a special time-limited Hoenn-themed Collection Challenge will be available during the event where the players will be tasked to collect Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Nincada, Nosepass, Aron, Plusle, Minun, and Bagon in order to receive three Silver Pinap Berries, XP, and an Incense.

Previously available Community Day exclusive move Meteor Mash is also on the table for players to claim. Evolve Metang form of Beldum during the event to get a Metagross that comes equipped with the move Meteor Mash as his charge attack. 

During the event, players will also be able to complete event-exclusive Field Research tasks that will reward Stardust and lead to encounters with Pokémon such as Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Aron, Plusle, Minun, and Wailmer.

Plus a there will also be Timed Research active throughout the event, completing which the player will get the following rewards

  • Catch two Kyogre – 10 Kyogre Candies
  • Catch two Groudon – 10 Groudon Candies
  • Catch 30 Pokémon – 30 Poké Balls

Completing all the Timed Research tasks will also allow players to encounter a Rayquaza that knows the exclusive Charged Attack Hurricane, as well as earn 3,000 XP and a Silver Pinap Berry. Players that are extremely lucky, might encounter a Shiny Rayquaza after completing all the Timed Research tasks.
