Pokimane caps donations to her Twitch channel to $5

Popular Twitch Streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys announced yesterday on Twitter that she would be limiting the amount of donations that could be given to her on Twitch.

worked with @streamlabs to create a donation cap of $5 for my channel! Thank you for supporting me to the point where I consider anything more than that unnecessary. To anyone that was more generous- please support growing channels, charities, and treat yourselves.Red heartSmiling face with smiling eyes

Pokimane Donation Cap

In an unprecedented move, the most famous female streamer announced that through a Twitch addon called Streamlabs, she would limit the maximum donation amount that anyone could give to $5. She added that anything more was “unnecessary” and that her supporters who had more money should give it to charities, up and coming streamers or just treat themselves.

The tweet, which has been liked by over 50,000 users, got her a lot of support from the community with everyone respecting the decision that she made.

It does not mean that she will earn a lot less, though. Combining sponsored streams, donations and brand endorsements, the Morrocon-Canadian earns upwards of $3 Million, with the number set to be growing. The current announcement is only a limit to the amount of donations that she receives.

While some might say that it is a bad move for business, apart from the goodwill and respect she has earned from the community, it should not affect most of her other revenue lines. Pokimane has previously donated $50,000 to UC Irvine for an Esports Scholarship, so she is not privy to donating money either.

Averaging over 16,000 viewers per stream, Pokimane’s popularity is soaring through the pandemic, with this move certain to increase it even further. One can hope that this decision will influence more big names to consider doing something similar.
