The Dreamhack Masters Spring Oceania saw Renegades emerge victorious against AVANT in a best of 5 series winning 3-2 (16-0 default, 13-16 Dust2, 9-16 Nuke, 16-10 Mirage, 16-11 Inferno).
Renegades already had 1 map advantage as they were undefeated and came from the upper bracket so the second map choice was given to AVANT which was Dust 2.
The game started with AVANT starting on the T side and opening things well for them with ‘ap0c’ getting 2 crucial glock kills and securing them the first round. Although we saw Jordan ‘Hatz’ Bajic getting a triple kill on the B site and opening things for his team. At the end of the first half rounds went back and forth and Renegades took lead 8-7 in the half.
The second half started well for AVANT where they quickly went to win the pistol round and the coming rounds after that. The map was quite competitive as both the teams were giving their best and we saw AVANT coming out on the top with their brilliant CT side plays and winning the map 16-13.
The second map of the game was Nuke which was actually Renegades’s pick but did not look like that as AVANT looked much stronger on this map. The first half started with Renegades winning the pistol round with everyone contributing with their glock but AVANT responded quickly and won the force buy on the next round. After that it was a different story altogether where we saw AVANT winning the half 13-2.
Renegades did try to pull back some rounds in the second half with the heroics of Christopher ‘dexter’ Nong but failed and the map was closed out 16-9 in the favor of AVANT and taking us to Mirage.
The next map of the game was Mirage and Renegades had to win this map in order to take this matchup into the final map in the best of 5 series. The first half started with ‘Sico’ getting two great kills from his USP and winning the round for his team. This map actually saw some turn around for Renegades and they did play quite well and secured the half 11-4 in their favor.
The second half saw Renegades winning the pistol round yet again and led the game 12-4. Although AVANT did win some good rounds with the help of ‘HaZR’ but failed and the map was closed out by Renegades 16-10 taking us to the final map of the series Inferno.
The last map of the series was Inferno which was Renegades’s pick so AVANT chose to start on the CT side and we saw a good B Site retake from them which led them to win the round. The next round saw ‘ap0c’ getting an ace with just his Famas and starting well on this final map. However Renegades did not give up so easily and came back by winning the buy round and played the half quite well and eventually securing the half 8-7.
After that it was no stopping for Renegades and they went on to win the second half and the whole map 16-11 and won the series 3-2.
Renegades were crowned the Dreamhack Master Spring champions by winning a closely contested matchup from AVANT 3-2 in a best of 5 series. Next up we will see Ninjas in Pyjamas taking on Vitality in the semi-finals of Blast pro league.
