The Original Resident Evil 1996 Is Coming to PC

The Mansion Awaits: Classic Resident Evil Games Find New Life on GOG

PC gamers may finally experience Capcom’s landmark survival horror classic Resident Evil in its original Windows PC edition from 1996. Rumored for a few days, the developer finally revealed on Wednesday that Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis for PC will also be re-released via GOG.

Windows PC users have had access to Capcom’s 2002 version of Resident Evil but the original PC version of Resident Evil has been stuck on CD-ROM format. The PC version of Resident Evil and, eventually, its 1998 and 1999 successors can be obtained through the GOG release as a part of Capcom’s latest venture.

Resident Evil for PC is being re-released with all of its original content which will be fine-tuned to take advantage of the modern-day operating systems and advanced hardware. Resident Evil on PC is available without a DRM, the same as other PC games available on GOG.

While these games boast amazing storylines and bring a wave of nostalgia for some of us who have been gaming for a while the graphics might look pale in comparison to some of the modern-day titles. However, Resident Evil is a classic, and playing it would help some of the younger gamers appreciate how far the industry has come.
