Rust EU Players Lose All Data Following Server Fire

Rust’s developer and publisher, Facepunch Studios recently shared that there is a “total loss of player data” as a result of the fire that broke out in their EU data centers at OVH Cloud datacenter in France earlier today.  “Unfortunately, the fire destroyed the SBG-2 building. We’re expecting a large amount of data loss across the affected servers.”

OVH Cloud also issued a statement over the incident, stating that the fire broke out “at 00:47 on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.” Furthermore, no one from their staff or the firefighters was harmed while containing the fire.

Microsoft’s Kevin Beaumont also shared footage of firefighters containing the fire  at the site where the incident occurred.

For now, Rust’s EU servers are slowly coming online in small batches, and players in the affected region can log back in, albeit without their previous progress.

Rust is fairly popular on PC and due to its resurgence thanks to various Streamers and YouTubers, it is set to release on consoles this year, with a beta coming out this month on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
