According to a recent Bloomberg report, Sony is testing a new PlayStation portable device that would directly compete with the Nintendo Switch in the handheld gaming space.
Nintendo has nearly always dominated the portable game market, especially after Switch took over the industry. PSP was one of the most popular products by Sony at its nascent stage but has failed to survive for very long despite their best efforts.
It can be argued that the PSP was ahead of its time and Nintendo Switch has proved that the market for the handheld gaming consoles is quite a large one. Nintendo’s success has prompted them to release the next generation of Switch, i.e. Switch 2, which is on the way to the market in the coming days.
Interest in companies like Steam, Nintendo, and Asus is constantly rising in this sector and it is only fair that Sony, a pioneer of the console industry, comes in to take a bite of the pie. While nothing has been confirmed officially, there is more truth to it than most reports.
Two of the biggest console manufacturers, Sony and Microsoft are yet to enter this space and once they do, their technology might be able to bring the best possible gaming experience in your pocket.
Fans better hold their horses, given unless the report is false, the device is still in its testing stage and is far from hitting the market. While Sony failed to capture the same market almost a decade ago, only time will tell if this new approach can take over the industry.
