Spain’s Superliga launch makes history with record figures for unique viewers and a peak of more than 47,000 viewers

The League of Legends competition organized by LVP (MEDIAPRO Group) kicked off its spring season with record-breaking figures.
The duel between Vodafone Giants and Team Queso reached a peak of 47,212 viewers, an all-time high for a regular season match.

The League of Legends Superliga, the highest national competition organized by LVP (MEDIAPRO Group) in Spain, started in 2021 making history and confirming the important growth trend experienced the previous year.

The launching game of the championship was held Monday, January 18th and exceeded 300,000 unique viewers, 13% more than the previous best for the competition (265,000 viewers), which had been reached in the 2020 summer final, and a 22% increase on the first day of the previous season, which reached 245,000 viewers. In this sense, the first day of the 2021 Superliga became the most watched broadcast in the history of the national competition.

The numbers of the first day are especially remarkable because they also set a historical record in terms of the peak of concurrent viewers for the championship. In all of 2020, the most watched broadcast corresponds to the aforementioned summer finale, which reached 46,700 viewers, while yesterday, during the clash between Vodafone Giants and Team Queso, 47,212 viewers were reached. LVP’s broadcast on Twitch exceeded 31,000 concurrent viewers on average throughout the day, figures which had never been in the Superliga thus far.

“The spectacular start of the Superliga confirms the trend of 2020, when we opened the door to a significant new public. Our mission in 2021 is to consolidate these new audiences and continue to grow in double digits, as we have done in recent years. The Superliga continues to be the benchmark competition on a continental level thanks to the work of LVP, Riot Games, the clubs and the rest of the stakeholders in the ecosystem, since this is a success that we share with them”, explained Jordi Soler, CEO of LVP.

The start of the Superliga also served as a premiere for the new sponsors of the competition, non-alcoholic beer Mahou 0,0 Tostada and Cacaolat, who this season join OMEN, Intel, Takis and Domino’s Pizza.

G2 Arctic takes its revenge on Movistar Riders

In sports, the most important event was the triumph of G2 Arctic over Movistar Riders, in the rematch of last summer’s final. The wolves stormed through the champion, who appeared at the meeting with a completely renewed roster compared to the previous year. MAD Lions Madrid, which beat Cream Real Betis in the debut of the competition; UCAM Esports Club, S2V Esports and Vodafone Giants, also started the Superliga adding a point to their winning form.

The Superliga returns next Wednesday with a second day can be followed online via Twitch or on television through UBEAT.
