Spotify has signed its first global paid sponsorship deal with Riot Games’ League of Legends, one of the renowned MOBA games across the world with a huge player base and a giant esports scene revolving around it.
According to a Variety report, this deal will give Spotify exclusive rights to provide audio services to League of Legends, consequently attracting its huge player count to the music streaming service.
“Gamers are soundtracking their experiences with audio tracks,” June Sauvaget – Spotify’s global head consumer and product marketing – said. “There’s overlap between audiences, but in the Venn diagram there’s white space on both sides.”
League of Legends has shined as one of the biggest esport titles in the world for several years now, with a player count more than any other MOBA. The Worlds Championship for League has set records on the streaming platform Twitch in terms of viewer count. Worlds 2019 rocked an average viewer count of 21.8 million, a number that’s certainly enough to attract heavy sponsors for the game. On Spotify, League of Legends’ tracks are listened to approximately 5 million times per month.
Under this deal, Spotify will receive an in-game banner which will be shown on stream during League of Legends’ tournaments.
