Valve might be working on integrating an Android emulator into Steam, as per recent rumors on the internet.
As initially reported by Bradley Lynch on X (formerly Twitter), his team recently identified a suspicious package on SteamDB containing five apps. According to Lynch’s X post, the Steam Database recently featured artwork from two of these apps, with Waydroid being the most intriguing.
Waydroid utilizes Linux namespaces to operate a full Android system within a container, making it possible for Android apps to run on any GNU/Linux platform “almost at native performance if they use Wayland.”
It’s important to note that the current version of Waydroid works exclusively with Intel and AMD GPUs. Whether the company decides to include NVIDIA GPUs at the time of its integration into Steam remains to be seen.
Gamers from throughout the globe will undoubtedly be keeping their eyes peeled for an official announcement from Valve on the subject.
