Steam Is Getting an In-Built Game Recording Tool

Will Steam's integrated recording replace the need for dedicated capture software?

Steam has recently released its beta version of a video recording feature game recording features, players can record, playback, clip, and share their content with just a few button presses without any additional software like OBS or Shadowplay.

The feature is said to be ‘lightweight yet powerful’ which implies that it will put less of a strain on your system while recording your gameplay at an optimal quality. Steam is always running behind the screen when you are playing a game on said platform so having an inbuilt feature will free you of the burden of running an additional software.

It will make use of a background recording system enabling users to click a button and record a video along with a few handy functionalities that often required other software hogging down your system which at times kept video games from performing optimally.

It is believed that Steam will also be implementing automation that will be able to detect highlights from video games like when you hit an “ace” in CS2. The optimized nature of the game system along with automation integrated to work with the games will be an excellent recipe for recording software and might steal away a few users the likes of OBS or Shadowplay for gamers who only record but don’t live stream.
