The competitive landscape of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has been marred with controversy due to the persistent issue of cheating. Despite numerous efforts to solve these problems, the game’s integrity appears to be on a downward trajectory. This has led to an outcry about cheaters in BGMI from various prominent figures in the gaming community, the latest being Animesh “Thug” Agarwal, co-owner of S8UL Esports, who recently voiced his frustration on X.
In a tweet, Thug expressed his frustration. He bluntly stated, “Just realised the number of f**** , Krafton gives about the condition of their game!…0”
Krafton’s Measures to Solve the Problem of Cheaters in BGMI
To address the issue of cheaters in BGMI, Krafton India Esports has implemented several measures during the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2024. During the main tournament and the preliminary stage known as THE GRIND, Krafton banned and disqualified a substantial number of teams. Around 17 teams have been banned, and 19 teams have been disqualified for violating the Code and Conduct of the tournament.
In a recent instance, Team Zero Recoil was disqualified from the semifinals without a formal announcement on social media. Rumors suggest the disqualification was due to the team’s failure to provide point-of-view (POV) recordings to verify their innocence regarding cheating allegations.
The controversy doesn’t end there. In another case, a player named Scorpion from Team NiY was rumored to have received a 10-year ban for cheating in a different third-party tournament. Despite this severe penalty, Team NiY was not banned from BGIS 2024. Instead, they were seen to continue competing by substituting the banned player.
For Krafton, moving ahead entails more than merely imposing strict rules and penalties. It’s about addressing the issue at its core. Krafton must prioritize enhancing its anti-cheat system, tackling the problem of cheaters in BGMI from its very roots.
