Twitch May Be Shadow Banning Viewers Using VPN From Chat

According to reports from multiple sources, popular video game streaming platform Twitch maybe shadow banning its users from chat for using VPN services to watch streams.

Virtual Private Networks, or simply VPN, is generally used to protect the privacy of users online by changing the IP address while browsing.

Recently, a lot of Twitch users have been reporting being shadow banned from the platform for using VPN services, and this has become a cause of major concern for the community since users aren’t receiving any sort of warning whatsoever in advance.

Twitter user ‘notdan’ claims that most VPN providers are currently shadow banned from Twitch chat.

“Oh fun, Twitch has banned almost ALL VPN providers from chat via shadowban during the past week or two,” the Tweet says. “This is unacceptable. You should at least be telling people their chats won’t show up.”

While there’s no official confirmation that these reports are true, users should take extra caution while using VPN to watch streams on Twitch. If you’re finding that your messages are not showing up in the chatbox during streams, you might be shadow banned from the platform as well.
