One of the founders of the “hot tub” meta Kaitlyn Siragusa aka Amouranth has warned “hot tub” streamers across Twitch that their ability to earn off advertisements may get suspended as hers did.
Twitch was in hot water ever since people started abusing the ToS to turn hot tub stream into something of a meta. The Amazon-owned streaming platform claimed that they were closing monitoring the situation and it is not until now that concrete action has been taken against any of the streamers.
The first streamer to suffer was Amouranth, arguably the biggest abuser of the grey area and a big name for Twitch to penalize in a way that doesn’t take the users off their platform. A pragmatically executed move to demotivate anyone from streaming similar content through cutting off a major part of their revenue stream.
“content that is deemed “not advertiser-friendly”, something that there is no communicated guideline for. This leaves open-ended the question of where the line is drawn. Many people complain about ToS being “unclear” but at least,” said Amouranth.
She also claimed that Twitch did not warn her about any violation of terms beforehand and Siragusa had to be the one initiating the conversation with Twitch Support in order to get a clearer picture. Though the reason behind her channel may be something completely unrelated to her “hot tub” streams as Twitch failed to specify but it doesn’t take a genius to address the elephant in the room.
