VALORANT has achieved some ground-breaking success in its closed beta stage. The devs behind the game have put in a lot of effort to make the game better for the players and to ensure its place as an esport title. Riot’s competitive shooter has managed to hold its head up high against giant rivals like CSGO and Rainbow Six Siege and has already broken their record viewer counts on Twitch even before the official release of the game.
With a great fan following comes greater demands from the game. Fans have already started asking Riot Games to develop a competitive mode for VALORANT in its closed beta stage, and it seems like Riot has listened to its fans once again.
Through a tweet on April 24, Riot has announced that the much-anticipated competitive mode for VALORANT is just on the horizon.
They also included a detailed blog post by Ian “Brighteyz” Fielding – Senior Producer behind the game – and Sean “Drevarius” Szopinski – Senior Designer – to walk fans through the update that’s to come.
The blog post states that VALORANT’S competitive mode will be using mechanics and formats as the unranked one, “but with a focus on higher-stakes competition.” They also warned users that even after the release of the competitive mode the devs might have to put it down occasionally “to refine the mode” and incorporate user feedback.
They assured gamers that they’re gonna do things differently than other competitive games by reducing the common “pain points” players experience by taking personal player skills into account. They also mentioned that they’ll “combat smurfing” and reduce the number of players with “boosted” ranks.
Here’s the summary of the update as exactly mentioned in the blog post by Riot
- Complete 20 Unrated matches to unlock Competitive mode
- 8 ranks, 3 tiers each, except the top rank, VALORANT
- Queue with up to 5-player parties, must be within 2 ranks
- Rank isn’t displayed if competitive matches aren’t played within 14 days, but your rank doesn’t decay behind the scenes.
- Closed beta rank does not carry over to launch
To clear things up about the competitive integrity of the game, they said, “Our rank and competitive matchmaking system is meant to deliver a balanced fight and keep the disruption to a minimum.”
