Version1 Valorant pro Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro has been suspended from the open qualifier and main event of the upcoming NA VCT Stage 3 Challengers One following some “discriminatory” remarks made by him towards a tournament official.
“On May 28th, during the team’s player check-in and rule review session, Zellsis made a categorically offensive and discriminatory remark about a tournament official,” Riot Games stated in an official competitive ruling on June 11th.
“Offensive comments made on the basis of gender or race are in direct violation of the standards expected of players participating in the VALORANT Champions Tour. Accordingly, Zellsis is suspended for the first Challenger Open Qualifier and first Challenger Main Event of Stage 3.”
The ruling further stated that any further violations in the future will result in increased penalties including suspension, forfeiture of prize money, or forfeiture of circuit points.
Following the incident, both Valorant pro Version1 and Zellsis himself have posted apologies to the Riot staff on their Twitter.
“Version1 and Zellsis regret the incident and apologize to Riot staff,” the org said. “We accept Riot’s decision and will be playing with a sub for the first open and closed qualifiers of stage 3 of VCT.”
