VALORANT will have its first international LAN event held in Reykjavík, Iceland starting on April 10 which features the top 12 teams who battled out through the regional qualifiers (Challengers event) towards the first masters event of the Champions Tour circuit.
Stage 1 Reykjavík is indeed surprising and might take the community by storm as a plethora of upsets were pulled off at the Challengers events most notably, The Guard passing the survival of the fittest test in North America who managed to topple teams like Cloud9 and former defending Reykjavík champions Sentinels from the contention.
The European, Middle Eastern, and African regions were given 3 spots towards the event by the organisers while North America, Asia-Pacific, Brazil and Latin America had 2 spots each while Japan and Korea were the only regions to have received just 1 qualifier spot each.
A playoff match was arranged between LATAM and Brazil to round out the 12-team list for Stage 1 Masters 2022 although top seeded teams were directly moved on to the playoffs and await the rest 8 to compete in the Group Stage and determine the remaining 4 who would later join the former.
Teams in the Group Stage have been bifurcated into 2 groups and will lock horns in a double-elimination bracket with all the fixtures set to be best of three. Top 2 teams from each group would then progress onto the playoffs. Playoffs would follow the same format except the lower Bracket and grand finals to be best of five.
Note: Due to traveling restrictions amid the Ukraine-Russian political tensions, FunPlus Phoenix were no longer able to compete at the Stage 1 Masters 2022 and were replaced by Team Liquid, the next immediate team on the EMEA based leaderboards.
