Popular video game distribution platform Steam has implemented bans to games that deal with cryptocurrencies and NFTs.
Under the updated Steam rules and regulations, Valve has stated that “applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs” are no longer allowed to be distributed on the Steam store.
The developers behind ‘Age of Rust’, a title that lets players collect various in-game NFTs, mentioned in a Tweet that Steam will be “kicking *all blockchain games* off the platform.”
“We chose to be upfront about blockchain gaming & NFTs,” the devs tweeted. “As a result, we finally lost the battle with Steam. “
“Steam’s point of view is that items have value and they don’t allow items that can have real-world value on their platform,” they continued. “While I respect their choice, I fundamentally believe that NFTs and blockchain games are the future. It’s why I started this journey with all of you.”
Valve hasn’t released a statement commenting on the ban as of yet.
