Virtus.pro defeats OG 3-2 to become ESL One LA online champions

Not even a pandemic can deny this VP team another Mercedes.

Virtual.pro are certainly in their peak form at this tournament, defeating 2 time TI champions OG not once, not twice, but thrice. The first victory against OG came in the group stages as a part of their 7-0 clean sweep. They defeated OG 2-0 and made it look easy. The second victory came 6 days later, on April 18th when they again defeated the TI champs 2-0 without giving them a chance to retaliate.

But OG still wouldn’t let them go without a fight. They wanted another rematch against the Russian giants and they made sure they got one by defeating Vikin.gg – probably the most underrated team in the tournament who had previously defeated OG in the group stages.

But the grand finals of the Europe-Commonwealth of Independent States region of ESL One LA Online couldn’t provide any luck for OG either as they failed to find their revenge against VP.

While the previous two games against the back to back TI champs were seemingly easy for VP to handle, OG surely gave Virtus.pro a run for their money in the grand finals.

The Russian organization who had a flawless run in the entire tournament started the grand finals on the right foot, taking the first map in just under 34 minutes. OG retaliated in game 2, stomping VP 29-4 without leaving any room for mistakes and finished the game with a wonderful black hole coming from the Enigma.

With some exceptional teamwork and a 16-2 performance coming from Sumail’s Storm Spirit, OG managed to take Game 3 by a scoreline of 27-18. Game 4 however, saw VP bringing in all their cards to the table with No[o]one’s Templar Assassin going 22-0 and ending the game with a RAMPAGE.

All the first four games were filled with back and forth thrills and fist-clenching teamfights, but they felt bland compared to what came in game 5 of the series. Till the very end of the last game, it felt impossible to predict which team would come out on top. Both teams played with excellence and viewers could enjoy some quality Dota throughout the 50 minute showdown. After some nerve-wracking teamfights VP were the ones to edge past their opponents with a close scoreline of 34-31.

ESL Dota 2 also tweeted to congratulate VP on their victory against OG.
