According to a report by Insider Gaming, the first week of its official release saw XDefiant has amassed a staggering number of players.
As stated in the report, XDefiant, since its launch on May 21, reportedly attracted 7.6 million unique players, reaching a concurrent peak of 700,000. This puts the game in the league of top-tier FPS like CS2, COD, or Valorant.
While the game has not reached a level where it is a household name, it has been quietly building a player base that one day can rival the top esports titles only if it can hold onto this staggering number of players beyond the honeymoon phase.
If the XDefiant team can fulfill the promises made in the roadmap, things appear promising. While XDefiant has its issues and Ubisoft has a bad history of releasing things too soon, overall, the game is amazingly stable and has a bright future ahead of it.
Rainbow 6 Seige was arguably their most successful esports title but it failed to remain consistent for a variety of reasons. It barely managed to hold an esports scene and the majority of the player base was only seen in certain parts of the world.
Ubisoft’s biggest challenge would be to keep the game interesting enough so players stay beyond the honeymoon period and on top of that the steady increase in the active player count should be kept intact.
