Kai Cenat’s “Rizz” Takes the Crown as Word of the Year

“Rizz” is a pop culture word popularised by Kai Cenat is named the word of the year by Oxford University Press, beating the word “Swiftie” a name which colloquially refers to Taylor Swift’s fans.

Kai Cenat is enjoying a very successful 2023 with some hurdles which are few and far between. The word “rizz” essentially created and popularised by Kai Cenat has been chosen by Oxford University Press as the word of the year. The word took the streaming community by storm and eventually moved out to social media in the form of reels, especially on TikTok and Instagram.

Contrary to popular belief, the word Rizz has existed for quite some time now but it didn’t blow up to such proportions until very recently with TikTok and Instagram. As Oxford defines it, “style, charm, or attractiveness; the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner.”.

While the word was used in abundance it was always going to be hard to beat the word “Swiftie” as it is. While many were surprised by this decision, the impressive feats achieved by Kai Cenat in 2023 cannot be overstated and the recognition is a testament to that fact.

2023 saw the rise of many pop-culture words but most of them fell out of favour with time but rizz has still stuck around as we head into the new year. The next big step for the world is to make it in the Oxford dictionary and officially turn it into a word for the “English Language” but it’s too farfetched at this point.
