Twitch employee fired after 6 years of service

Amazon has been notoriously famous for handing pink slips to their employees recently, and the popular streaming website Twitch, which Amazon owns, is no exception.

Twitch has been hosting million-dollar events and paying the streamers billions in total while being unable to retain their employees, which the community has criticized. Throughout 2023, Twitch has fired a large number of employees and the trend seems to have continued as we head into 2024. Firing employees on a large scale has tarnished their reputation as employers as we see LinkedIn flooded with painful stories of employees who were let go.

“Today I learned the difficult news that after 6 wonderful years, my time at Twitch has come to an end as I have been impacted by the recently announced layoffs impacting 35 percent of Twitch staff. The past six years have been the best years of my professional career due to the incredible growth and advancement I experienced and to the wonderful people I had the pleasure to work with.”

“As I look into the eyes of my three little ones that depend on me, I am overwhelmed by both the daunting task ahead and an overwhelming urge to pick up the pieces and press on. As my little girl innocently prayed this morning: please help us see a miracle,” posted an employee.

The CEO of Twitch has acknowledged that the company is going through a difficult situation and letting their employees go has been the hardest thing to do but he has assured that the business remains strong despite failing to reach the goals they originally set out to upon which the hiring was done.

The company’s downsizing is solely because they failed to scale at the level they had hoped for. Twitch for the longest time had ruled the streaming industry but now they have serious competitors who are taking streamers away from them and as a result, the number of daily active users is suffering. As things stand, it is tough for the situation to turn around anytime soon and more employees might be shown the door.
